Evisu is all about the other – option.
Disillusioned by the mass-produced item, Japanese vintage jeans lover Hidehiko Yamane began to custom-make his own denim. In 1991 the trained tailor went against the grain, meticulously hand-painting 14 pairs of jeans a day to redevelop vintage style. Twenty-five years later, stamped with the original painted gulls and the Japanese god of Prosperity, Evisu jeans are much sought-after by those who shun conformity.
Similarly, Evisu Eye, the brand’s equally subversive eyewear Spring/Summer 2016 collection is set to garner a cult following. The Osaka brand’s trademark emblem is 3D-printed onto denim-textured acetate handmade frames, in funky shades ranging from harsh metal to baked enamel.
The Evisu tagline ‘Before anyone did anything, EVISU did everything’ is reinforced in the current eyewear collection. Rich, coloured lenses. Retro-inspired shapes. Combining the known with the unknown.
Evisu Eye is certainly for those who yearn to break the mould, while retaining their individuality.
